This attractive city is the gateway to southern Spain, and a regular influx of visitors come to soak up its gourmet tapas bars, rich culture, and vibrant history. This sun-drenched paradise is the ideal spot for an engaging city break; with its rich culture providing plenty to keep sightseers happy.

Malaga is a wonderful place to buy shoes and other leather goods. The main shopping strip, Calle Marqués de Larios, is a pedestrianised street near the port where you’ll find most major Spanish retail brands. The surrounding lanes are also worth a browse for a mix of one-off shops and big labels. If you prefer a one-stop shop, the huge El Corte Inglés department store sells everything from fashion to furniture and food.

The city is renowned for its excellent seafood dishes and its superb tapas bars - some of which offer views of the beach. Must see attractions include the impressive Alcazaba fortress, a Moorish citadel whose golden walls can be seen from almost any point in the city. There’s also a fascinating ancient Roman theatre, and the Parque de Málaga which offers some leafy shade in the height of the summer sun. The Málaga Fair in August is a highlight of the local events calendar with celebrations running day and night. Expect lots of dancing, food stands, flamenco performances and entertainment for all the family.
