Glasgow is a modern city that’s proud of its industrial heritage. Scotland’s biggest city is home to a wealth of cultural attractions including museums, art galleries, an arthouse cinema, and even a Victorian garden cemetery where each of the Classical Revival monuments all have a story to tell.

But despite it being a busy urban metropolis, there are lots of public parks and green spaces to enjoy. Glasgow Botanic Gardens is home to around nine thousand plants and an impressive wrought-iron glass house.

Glasgow certainly holds its own on the international style scene. Locals call the city centre the ‘Style Mile’ thanks to its concentrated collection of fashion boutiques and department stores. Buchanan Galleries stocks a stellar line-up of classy brands, with more designer labels available on Princes Square. The West End is great for vintage shops, while fashion and flea market bargains can be found at the Sunday car boot sale in the Blochairn Market Complex.

Glasgow’s food scene stretches further than a deep-fried Mars Bar. It’s renowned for its curry culture, and some popular establishments have achieved almost mythical status among Glaswegian gourmands. Elsewhere it has its fair share of excellent independent delis, coffee shops and gastropubs. If single malt Scotch whisky is your tipple, book a tour around The Clydeside Distillery followed by a sampling with views over the River Clyde.

Stay in town and shop until you drop, immerse yourself in football fever, or take to the hills as Glasgow is also the gateway to some of the UK’s most spectacular scenery just an hour or so up the coast.
