Boa Vista is all about beautiful, secluded beaches and the opportunity to enjoy some great outdoor activities. Whether you’re a complete beginner at snorkelling, or are keen to complete a diving course, the world beneath the waves along Boa Vista’s coastline is a lovely place to discover Cape Verde’s rich marine life.

Admire the famous Santa Maria shipwreck, an eerie sight laid out on a stormy stretch of beach along Costa de Boa Esperança. Take a half day tour to visit the incredible sand dunes of the Viana Desert, and enjoy spectacular views from the Morro Negro lighthouse, standing at Cabo Verde's most easterly point.

Delve into the island’s historic past in the capital Sal Rei where you’ll find intriguing architecture, markets and colourful colonial buildings. But it’s Boa Vista’s many wonderful beaches that excite visitors the most. You won’t be short of places to laze on Santa Mónica Beach, a 22km stretch of sand which is perfect for an afternoon of sunny relaxation. Praia de Chaves is widely regarded as one of the best beaches, and Praia Carlota is lined with trendy beach bars where you can enjoy live music and seafood dishes that combine the island’s West African heritage with Portuguese influences.
