Sustainable Development Plan

The East Midlands Airport Sustainable Development Plan is our vision of how we see the airport developing over the next 20 years. Our previous plan was published in 2015, and we are now consulting on our updated 2025 Sustainable Development Plan.

The Draft Sustainable Development Plan (SDP) sets out what our aspirations are for the future of East Midlands Airport. In this plan we will consider how passengers travel to and from the airport, the extent of the airport’s economic impact and how we support our local community.

It is important for us to look at how any development of East Midlands Airport can be sustainable long term, and how this will impact our local area.

We are ambitious for the development of the airport and our region. Our aim is to deepen the role that we play in the Midlands; driving growth through better connectivity; creating jobs and attracting investment and enabling our passengers to enjoy their travel to their favourite destinations from their local airport. As we grow, we are committed to growing the airport in a responsible and sustainable way working with our partners to minimise disturbance and reduce emissions.

We are working together with our airline customers and our partners across the East Midlands to develop the airport and bring maximum benefit to the region. We also want to make sure that our plans are up to date to meet the opportunities and challenges of the future.

Public Consultation

The public consultation will open on Wednesday 19th March 2025 and will close on Friday 16th May 2025, so that all those with an interest in the airport’s future are able to submit responses and find out more details of the proposals.

There are lots of different people who have an interest in the airport, and their views and comments are an important part of our planning process. As well as the public we are consulting with stakeholders including Airport Consultative Committees, Airlines, Airport Operators, Local Authorities and other key local representatives.

Next Steps

All feedback will be collated and reviewed to identify key themes. Those key themes will then be reviewed to shape the final plan.

Once the plan is adopted, the airport will regularly review progress against each of the actions. Regular reviews are also completed with the Airport’s Consultative Committee.
